Lok Sabha: India general election results 2019

Published

on

Between 11 April and 19 May, hundreds of millions of Indians voted for 542 members of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, which has 543 elected seats (the poll was cancelled in the Vellore constituency). Counting of results began at 08:00 local time (02:30 GMT) on Thursday 23 May.

The alliance led by the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept to another landslide against the Indian National Congress (INC) and its opposition allies.

In a small number of states, the main contest was between regional parties - and not the BJP or Congress. These include the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, the TDP and YSR in Andhra Pradesh, the TRS in Telangana and a regional alliance led by the SP and BSP in Uttar Pradesh.
